Fluoroscopy in Long Island & Queens

What is fluoroscopy?

Fluoroscopy is a form of medical imaging that uses a stream of x-ray images to create a real time “movie” of your internal structures. This allows doctors to see internal organ functioning, while saving the stream of images to a computer. These exams often involve the use of a contrast solution, usually barium, which allows for better visualization of the organs in your body. Call (800) 220-2220 today to schedule a consultation with one of our talented radiologists and learn whether you are a candidate for fluoroscopy!

Why is fluoroscopy performed?

Fluoroscopy is an important tool in diagnosing and treating a number of conditions and diseases that affect internal structures, including your:

  • GI tract
  • Veins
  • Heart
  • Stomach
  • Intestines
  • Lungs
  • Joints
  • Bladder
  • Reproductive system

What does a fluoroscopy procedure involve?

At Neighborhood Radiology Services, a fluoroscopy procedure is done during one office visit. When you arrive, you will be asked to remove any jewelry, glasses, belt buckles, or other articles that contain metal. You may also need to remove clothing from the area being examined and will be given a gown, if needed.

Depending on the type of fluoroscopy you are undergoing, you may be asked to take barium, which will act as a contrast agent during the exam. Speak with one of our knowledgeable staff members prior to the exam to discuss the specifics for your particular test.

Just before the exam, you will be positioned on an exam table and one of our friendly technicians will ensure you are comfortable. When the test begins, the imaging machine will move over the portions of your body that are being examined to capture a series of images. These images are displayed on a computer and saved for review.

After your test, your doctor will go over your results with you, answer any questions, and give recommendations for your next steps.
